World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51M viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different tongues.
