The star has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was presented with the prize on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots played in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds supported locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges caused by floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from performances in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

One venue in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
