Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
